And so Mauritius makes its own tiny step in Olympic history: Jonathan Chimier made it to the finals in Men's Long Jump today, the first time Mauritius has an athlete in an Olympic final. I'm the first to be surprised. We'd been focusing a lot more on our track athletes. Chimier has the second best jump in his qualification, jumping 8m28 right behind the gold medal favourite Dwight Phillips(8m31). His final is on 26 August.
Tomorrow Stephane Buckland will race in the 200m semi-finals, trying to if not beat then join three podium contenders in the finals. Really keeping my fingers crossed.
