Sandals.
If there's one country where you're going to see them, it's in Mauritius.
I used to think having three pairs of sandals was being girly and self-indulging. I still think so. But you've seen nothing until you've seen some of the private collections here. Sandals of all shapes, colours and heel-height.
Wearing a pair of black standard sandals just doesn't cut it when you have girls matching the blue of their T to the exact blue of the open-toed swirly-girly shoe. And imagine coming back from Thailand with 14 pairs of shoes, of which most are various kinds of sandals!
The yawning gaps in my own possessions glared out at the recent wedding. You should have seen the show! Once more, no over-arching "black is good with everything" logic. Instead, shades and detail outshone each other to match with the sarees and salwaars...
Then again, you might be wearing the most innocuous pair, but if it's bought in a different country, everyone notices it. That's because every woman worth her salt knows the range available locally, and will not grace those with a comment.
The season for them is back soon. The ultimate compliment? "It's 'different'!" :D

Hey Val,
Oh my gawd! The sandal mania is in Mauritius too? It's definitely here in Malaysia, and it drives me nuts cause I'm one of those who has like 10 different pairs of shoes/sandals but they're all in black cause I just cannot be bothered to match my shoes to whatever I'm wearing!
And what's worse now is that since I've had Cleo I seem to prefer my trusty Timberland trainers to my regular 4.5 inch open toed sandals!
That was such a tribute to me lol. Can't believe u ended the post with that comment! ;)
